The Staggering Overnight is a 1977 unreleased and unfinished Czech-American animated musical fantasy adventure film directed by Gene Deitch and based on Maurice Sendak's 1957 children's picture book of the same name. the film features the voices of Henry Gibson, James Earl Jones, Arte Johnson, Peter Ustinov, Zero Mostel, Jack Warden, Charles Durning, Dick Van Dyke, Anthony Perkins, Marlon Brando, Otto Preminger, Peter Finch and Klaus Kinski with narration provided by John Huston. It was produced by production company Hanna-Barbera Productions and Rembrandt Films.


The Staggering Overnight was unreleased in the United States on November 2, 1977, by Warner Bros., The first film spawned a franchise with seven theatrical and direct-to-video sequels, a television series, video games and merchandise.
