Luke and Jacob's Messy Mayhem is a British children's game show created by the BBC and presented by the comedy duo Luke Nile and Jacob Salaman (aka Luke and Jacob). In the show, two teams of three kids compete against each other in order to win lots of prizes in some extremely mucky, dirty and hilarious challenges set out by the duo themselves akin to the likes of previous CBBC favourites including Get Your Own Back, Dick & Dom in da Bungalow and more recently Sam & Mark's Big Friday Wind-Up.

Production[]

In late 2019, CBBC put an advert on the "Be on a Show" page of their website for kids wishing to take part in a new weekday evening show hosted by Luke Nile and Jacob Salaman (Who previously won a contest to become the newest continuity presenters on the channel in October of that year with help from their Cirque Du Hilarious colleague, Danny Adams (Star of the CBBC sitcom, Danny and Mick) ). When the show was announced by the duo on their new twitter page in March 2020, they said that the BBC picked up the show for a sixteen episode run and if the ratings are good they'll consider doing a second series after current restrictions have been lifted.

Filming began in January 2020 and they managed to record all sixteen episodes before the current lockdown rules went into effect. The show premiered on the CBBC channel on 18 June 2020 with each episode airing at 6:20pm every Thursday evening. Unlike some game shows made by the BBC, this one does not have an audience of any sort at all (The BBC have stated that the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic is not the reason why the show does not have an audience, the true reason is that they wanted to try something different whilst letting people know that they believe the show must try to go on no matter what the condition).

Show Format[]

  • Toss Up - At the start of the show the teams take part in a random mini physical challenge to allow them to get to know what they're going to be in for during the show. The team that wins this challenge will get twenty-five points added to their score.
  • Round 1: The Mystery Buckets -In this game one member of each team who is sitting on a chair in the middle of the studio will pick one out of 20 different buckets. Once a bucket has been selected, the contents of said bucket will be dumped on the persons head, if the bucket contains a nasty food item (Beans, Mustard, Jelly etc.) then no points will be awarded but if the bucket has confetti in it then they get a point. First person to get five confetti-filled buckets wins fifteen points for their team.
  • Round 2: Musical Pies - In this game all three members of both teams take part in a Musical Chairs style tournament where one member of each team compete against each other. When the music starts both participants (Who each sit in two chairs in the middle of the studio) pass a stuffed pie between themselves until the music stops and when it does stop, the person holding the pie will be pied in the face by Luke and Jacob. The first team to get two victories out of 3 matches will win this game and get thirty points added to their total score.
  • Round 3: Splash-A-Roke - In this game each team selects one member to sing a song which has been picked by the hosts before the show. If they sing well then nothing happens but if they mess up then water will be squirted at them from all directions until they get back on track. At the end of the game whoever the presenters decide done better will earn twenty points for their team.
  • Bonus Round: Luke and Jacob on the Road - For the bonus round, each team has to guess who they think will win a challenge between the duo (Which was recorded before the show). Some of the games seen in this segment are largely inspired by the outside games seen on Dick & Dom in da Bungalow (Most notably Bogies and Dick & Dom's Dirty Day, the latter of which was renamed to Luke and Jacob's Dirty Day to fit the presenters). The team who got it right wins ten points but if both teams get it right (Depending if they both pick the same person) then they get five points each.
  • Round 4: School of Shame - In this game a teacher from the two teams schools will be sitting in two adjacent gunge tanks. The way this game works is that each teacher has to answer as many random questions asked by Luke and Jacob as possible within ninety seconds and every time they get a question right, nothing happens but each time they get one wrong then the teacher is gunged via a bucket thrown by the presenter who is not asking the questions and earns five points for their respective pupils. There is no reward for the team who wins the challenge as both teams get to keep the points that they have earned from this game, however, the teacher that gets the most questions wrong receives a larger gunging by their pupils who press a large red button on their desk whilst Luke and Jacob spray them with shaving foam.
  • Final Round: The Gunk-Filled Finale! - In this game the two teams will race against each other in a relay style format across many messy obstacles (The obstacles will often change from show to show) that are scattered throughout the studio. Whilst in the other games the teams are allowed to wear their socks, this game REQUIRES every member of each team to be barefoot from start to finish to avoid cheating on some of the obstacles in which they need to use their feet to grip onto something. Both teams finish times will then be converted to points (10 points for every second spent) with the first team to cross the finish line getting 50 bonus points for winning the race.

At the end of each show the team with the most points would receive a bunch of magnificent prizes and all other sorts of goodies. Whilst the losers are sent to the "Dungeon of Mess" (Which is basically a bigger gunge tank than the ones seen during the School of Shame round) and gunged by Luke and Jacob (But they still got a CBBC goodie bag for taking part).
